Drivers Keep an Eye Out for Missing Kids...

If a child is missing, an Omaha-based company has put a lot more eyes on the road to help find them. Whenever an Amber Alert is issued, drivers for Werner Enterprises are on the lookout. Joining forces with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Werner drivers receive instant notice every time an alert is issued.

When an Amber Alert is issued, a red light goes on in Werner trucks signaling a priority call on the driver's GPS mobile communicator. Messages are handled by Qualcomm. Only drivers in the alert area are contacted. When a child goes missing every minute counts. With 8,600 trucks on the highway in 48 states, Werner Enterprises significantly increases the chances of finding and helping the child.

"We see a lot of things," says Werner driver Allen Parker. "You can see down in cars and things like that, but most of all if we know there's a vehicle that we're supposed to be looking for, it's really advantageous for us that we can be up above and we're not blocked by other vehicles and things. It helps us to spot the cars we're looking for."
